Project Update

So apparently the women’s group I will be counseling/working with only meets three times a week, so the other two weekdays I will be teaching children English at an after school program in Urabamba. I am so excited about this opportunity – interaction with women and children? Hell yes.

I hear conversing/playing with kids can greatly improve language skills – hopefully they will be patient with my Spanish. Or at least it will inspire a few laughs. I don’t know if their after-school program already has a curriculum, but I am hoping to utilize TPRS (Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and StoryTelling) methods that the THS fraus used to teach German. Incredibly effective even for high schoolers, I can only imagine TPRS will work wonders for these kids. Sooo excited.

  • Your summer just keeps getting better, doesn’t it? I’m very glad to know, and I’m sure the kids will teach you a lot of Spanish!

  • The TPR system sure as hell worked. I don’t think Andy will ever forget the word for car headlights.
